There is a new ceramic animal.. a little puppy dog with a bristle hedgehog back.. sitting outside the door of the cottage. Bo spied it this morning and barked and barked at it. Eventually I decided to take him off his long leash, put him on his short leash and take him to see it! It had only been about six to ten feet away from where he was. When I took him towards it he became fearful and apprehensive. You coudl see he wanted to go near it but was frightened. So I bent down and touched the ceramic dog so Bo would know it would not hurt me. He then was happy to go closer to investigate, though still apprehensive. Once he had had a chance to sniff it and find out it was harmless he didn't bark at it again.

Bo broke his collar this last week.... he broke the bits that go into the clip, the plastic bits. So I found his old collar and lengthened it. Today he broke this collar. He broke the plastic bits that clip it together, just like he had the other one! So I have had to find Otis' old collar, which I kept for sentimental reasons, and now he is wearing that one until I can buy him a new strong collar. His neck is the same size as Otis' neck was.

3 Feb 2007 Bosun is 50 weeks old today
For the past week or so Bosun has decided that he likes the fire-side rugh in the living room. He loves to lay on it, but he also loves to pull it around and if I am not aware of what he is up to, he will grab it and move it around the room leaving it in a bundle when he has finished with it!
10 Feb 2007 Bosun is 51 weeks old today
The snow is very wet now and clings to Bosun if he is out in it for too long. The fields are difficult to run through now and he has to leap to play with his ball on a rope. I do not take him out there on a daily basis now to play as it is not so much fun (certainly not fun for me in the wet snow!) He does like to follow the deer tracks in the snow. They have very definite paths that they have trodden which they use daily leaving their droppings and their scents as they go. Bo loves to wallow in their scent still, spending parts of his time in the fields playing and the other following tracks and sniffing and rolling!

We went out in the field as usual to play today which Bo loves immensely. Howver when it came time to come in, he didn't follow me in, but sneaked off to the barn, through the barn and when I called him to me he ran off down the drive. He went on the road and I went down to get him back. He woudl NOT come to me. He figured it was a game I guess. However, there was a pick-up truck which had stopped to colect mail just a short way down the road from us, and when he drove off on his way home Bosun followed and chased and so the driver stopped. I STILL could NOT get Bo. The driver and I talked and then he drove off down the road. Bo was sidetracked doing something else to start with so by the time he noticed the truck was a good twently plus yards away. That did not stop Bo chasing, which he did, catching up with the truck in a short time. Bo stopped at the next house while the truck went on. However I really DO NEED to get a collar or something that I can stun Bo with from a distance the next time he does it, since he completely ignored my voice commands.

Yesterday morning Bo came in after being on a long leash. He always goes outside first thing in the morning and these days he likes to stay out and watch the school children walk along the road to catch the school bus. He came inside and I didn't thinkhe smelled very nice. I looked around the room to see if he had had an accident anywhere, but no, nothing. Then he walked past me and I saw his backside. It was covered in excrement. I can only assume he had sat in it. It certainly wasn't indicative of an upset stomach. So then I had to set about cleaning Bo up! He is too big and heavy for me to lift into the bath, so I got a bowl of water and a cloth and set about it. He was not too happy to begin with but when he realised I was not giving up on him, he just let me do what I had to do. I had to get a pair of scissors and clean up one little patch that was just too messy to wash!
