Bo and I went for a walk to the river Kettle at the end of our road. There were lots of Canada geese there that he was interested in. They were on the shore a bit further along going both ways from where we were. One flock took off but the other stayed. Bo went in the water, wading then he went in deeper and started swimming. Just a few strokes but swimming none the less! He was on leash so couldn't go far. I need to take him again but this time have his 20 foot training leash with me so he can swim more if he desires.

Bo went swimming in the Kettle River again today. This time I had my camera with me. Bo is on the 20 foot long training leash. See this at teh bottom of the page. I moved the video from this position becasue I foudn that it was difficult to access the menu with it right beside the menu.

9 Sept 2006 Bosun is 29 weeks old today.

Bosun is always up to tricks! He is very naughty at times and does not come when he is called, while at others he is all sweetness and obeys every command!

This morning Bo went into the paddock onhis own while I picked rose hips. Then we went to the veggie patch to pick tomatoes and the very few red chilli peppers that are there. Then we picked some hazel nuts. Before I had finished picking those off the ground he had goen off to the neighbours and would not come when I called him. Then he went in to their neighbours and was in with the two horses there when the owner shouted him away. I was pleased she did and thanked her for it, as he has to learn and it is not safe for him to be in with horses who have the ability to kick out at him. He is lucky that Buddy and Sparky, the two horses in our paddock, are very patient with him.

Earlier this morning we had been out playing ball, a favourite with Bo. He loves to chase the ball and especially loves to catch it in mid-air. Often he will catch it and roll to the ground with it in his mouth. At others he will catch it and fall over with it. He usually lays and guards the ball after it and then will bring it to me if I ask him to. I often use two balls, one to throw to him, and the next one for him to chase while I walk to retrieve the first ball. This is purely for my benefit so I get some exercise, rather than Bo getting it all by bringing the ball to me each time!

Sept 16 2006 Bo is 30 weeks old today

For several weeks now Bo has been acting like a "man dog" rather than a puppy when doing what he has to do!

Sept 22 2006

Today we set off early for Vancouver. I made sure that we had Bo's cage packed as he does seem to like the security of it. We stopped several times to stretch our legs and arrived safely by about 1-30pm. After unpacking the car we set the cage up for Bo and since it is outside on the deck we put covers over it so that he will not be cold at night. He seemed really excited to be back in the apartment and of course realy excited to see his other owner!

I have been very lax in the training of Bo and he has not had enough practice walking along paths. In fact he is more used to walking on roads than paths. He still pulls and we are working on this bad habit.

Sept 23 2006 Bo is 31 weeks old today

Bo is sometimes good and sometimes not so good when we take him out for his walks. Just when I think he has mastered the walking without pulling he reverts, gets all excited and pulls like mad!

Sept 24 2006

Bo decided around midnight to bark at other dogs in the area and at one time there was him and another dog in the distance both barking and waking the neighbourhood up. The only way tostop Bo was to sit outside with him and reassure him that he should be quiet, that everything was OK, and it was bed time! He calmed down after what seemed an age but was in reality only five or ten minutes.

Bo's walk this morning was a good one. He started by pulling but within a few steps I was able to have the leash loose and we both enjoyed the walk around the block!

Sept 27 2006

Today I took Bo to the Kennels for a two week stay. The kennels are in Ladner and are ones that we took Otis to in his day. They have a field area where the dogs can run around at certain times of the day, and they organise it so that different dogs are out at different times, depending on their characters. The place has expanded since Otis' time here, with new buildings etc.

We had gone out to see the kennels on Sept 24th but didn't get to see the inside, but did get to chat to the receptionist, who used to work at the SPCA and knew Otis and Jaxx!! We know Bo is in good hands!

I was hoping to see the inside and where Bo woudl be sleeping when I left him on the Wednesday. However, Bo's cushion, blanket and food and toys and bones were all taken from me at the reception desk and Bo went happily off to his new home.

When I filled out all the forms for admittance it came to our attention that Bo did not have his Bordetello injection to prevent the cough that often comes in kennels. I was unable to take Bo myself to the vets, so they did this for me. I was on a tight schedule for catching a plane to the UK, so was really relieved that they would take Bo to the vets for me.
