In his working days Buddy was an RCMP horse.
Buddy is black..the ideal color for an RCMP horse. He walks well, is people friendly, and has a good temperament, helpful in a RCMP horse because of the rigorous life when performing musical rides. He needed to be adaptable because of the travelling schedule, with the change of scenery, climate, food, water and stabling.
What are musical rides?
Musical rides are traditional cavalry drill movements performed to music.
Sparky used to be a chuck wagon pony.
I notice that when we are working in the field the horses tend to graze in their paddock near to where we are. This is particularly noticable when the gate between their two paddocks is open and they are free to graze quite a distance. Then it can be seen that they like to be near to us!

Buddy and Sparky leave our farm due to the fact their owners have moved out of BC and into Saskatchewan. The farm seems empty without them and Bo really misses them. He has been going into the paddock looking for them for days only to discover they have not returned.
On the evening about six o'clock when the horses left, all three alpacas watched Buddy and Sparky leave with their owners' riding them. Bo was in the paddock with the alpacas but did not take too much notice of them going.
The horses paddock has been divided down the middle now and made into two fenced paddocks (rather than an electric fence dividing it) ready for "Sasha", a female alpaca that will be joining us in November!!
