Common Garter Snake

I accidentally killed this common garter snake while mowing the back three acres the other day. I didn't even realise he was there until the next time the mower went round and I saw him. I was most upset. I haven't seen any more snakes in the grass, but then I didn't see him in the grass either.

Garter snake

I saw this snake while clearing some weeds in the front garden and quickly went inside to get my camera. If you enlarge this photo by clicking on it you will see the snake more clearly. You will see it has yellow stripes going down the length of it's body.

This snake went under the front of the porch and I haven't seen it again.
