Wasps

Since we came here in May 2005 we have found many wasp nests on our property. The wasps make nest under the eaves of the workshop, in holes in the cottage, in the shelter used for storing hay, in the barn area and even on our trailer.

When we were painting the outside of the cottage last year we foudn over thirty wasps' nests. Some were in use but most were old ones.

Getting rid of wasp nests

We bought some spray from the local hardware store and sprayed them so that we were safe while painting. Apparently it is best to spray the nest either first thing in the morning or last thing at night when the wasps are less active.

When we had the stable roof done the roofers found wasps nests up high there too and they 'bombed' them using a spray, took a fifteen minute coffee break by which time the wasps were dead, and went back safely to work.

We found this nest in the trailer where the bar joins to the car.

I found a similar wasp nest earlier in the use after a session in the pool. I was walkign past the trailer and got stung. The nest that time was on the bars at the end of the trailer.

I believe this is the nest of a paper wasp

This nest was found in the eaves of the workshop.
