We have been busy these last few weeks. I have tried in vain to start the sit on mower and also the rottertiller. Last week my husband tried to start the sit on mower. He did get it going for a few minutes but since then nothing! So on Monday April 30th we went out and bought ourselves a new one.... a Husqvarna. It arrived the next day and I managed to get a few minutes on it mowing before rain stopped my play!
We also bought a trailer for the mower and we have used that to transport several loads of manure. Some of it has been moved to the compost heap in the veggie garden and some of it has been moved to the garden outside the back door... the one around the big Ponderosa Pine tree. Hubby has been busy making a new surround out of wood for the garden and has made it bigger. It is an elongated hexagonal shape and we are still busy sorting it out. It needed to be dug and the pebbles taken out. Plus more soil needs to be put in it. That is slowly being achieved! We now have to keep Bo the Border Collie out of the garden.... he seems to think it is there for him to lie on!
The veggie patch has been ploughed! Our wonderful neighbour that did it last year did it this year too! He wanted manure which we have plenty of and in exchange he ploughed the garden as well as bringing two massive loads on the same "sledge" he used last year.
I have planted potatoes that were originally bought for our consumption but decided since we hadn't used them, they would grow!! They went to seed down in our basement area and I have planted them to see if they do indeed grow!

Today I planted seeds in the greenhouse. I planted tomato, peppers, pole beans (runner beans), basil, chives, parsley and sage
I notice I am about one week ahead of what I did last year with planting seeds in the greenhouse.
We had a frost this morning. I am thinking I need to still keep a record of the weather here in Grand Forks! It isn't as warm as I thought it was going to be!
We have started to prune the fruit trees... pears, and apples and have yet to so the plum trees and cherry tree.

I have begun to dig the veggie patch. It is a slow job and I am not rushing it, just doing a little at a time. The rottertiller would be quicker BUT I am not able to start it on my own and am not sure I could move it to the veggie patch either so that will have to wait till my husband gets back up here and we find time to do it! In the meanwhile I dig!

Today we got the rottertiller out and tilled the garden. It didn't take long with both of us working and certainly did a better job than the digging I was doing and much quicker too! It will need doign before we plant any seeds but that won't be happening for at least a month!
