Jaxx came from the loca SPCA. He is a Shih Tzu/Lhassu Abso cross. We just happened to go in there one day, "just looking!!" Jaxx was spied by my husband who instantly fell in love with him. I was not too sure about Jaxx, since he was a little dog and I didn't think I would like him! From that day on we visited daily, or at least one of us did if we were not both able to go. Jaxx had not yet been put up for adoption. They were trying to find his owners. Jaxx had been found roaming the streets with another dog, a brother or sister or parent. We were not told which. Jaxx had been micro-chipped so they traced his owners and found that the husband of the family that owned him had died, and Jaxx had been put out on the streets presumably because no one in the house wanted him anymore. When Jaxx came up for adoption we were already there filling in the papers!
Otis liked Jaxx who when we first got him barked a lot. Otis was a quiet dog who rarely barked. He taught Jaxx his quiet ways and Jaxx calmed down. They would both bark at dogs passing by the house and would get excited chasing cats! Snuggles was not so sure about jaxx. She kept out of his way!! She had her favourite basket in the utility room that she would sleep in and would look to make sure Jaxx wasn't around when she was on her way out of the house! She would do the same on returning to the house. She took time adjusting to Jaxx being around. Not so with Ben. Ben loved Jaxx right from the start though Ben took a long time getting his courage and losing his timidity.
March 7th. Jaxx woke up early at 6-30 am to the sound of a bird singing outside the bedroom window!! Very unusual for Jaxx as he is a sleepy head in the mornings!! It is often ten or sometimes even later when he eventually stirs!!
Still early march and we have snow outside. Jaxx has been outside, and came in again with snow coating his feet. It is the wet snow that sticks in lumps and is hard to remove. Jaxx has been in the utility room "thawing" so the snow doesn't make wet spots all over the floor. I eventually let him in and carry on working in the house. Suddenly I hear a funny noise; a clattering. I wonder what it could possibly be and look around. I go into the lounge and there I see our leather sofa and behind it, with his head poking up over the top, back towards me, feet clutching the window sill, I see Jaxx!!! He is stuck between the sofa and the wall, attempting to cling on and not fall. The sofa prevents that as it is too close to the wall but Jaxx still is floundering. I go to him and grab him round his middle so he cannot fall and carefully lift him up and onto the wide window ledge. I can only surmise that he climbed onto the sofa, onto the back and there encountered the wool throw which was slippery. As it fell off the back of the sofa and onto the floor so did Jaxx! He sat stunned on the window ledge for a while, watching and groaning, telling me all about it, as I pulled the sofa out from the wall to pick up the throw and the large lumps of ice which were on the floor. He obviously hadn't thawed before I allowed him into the house!!! I am pleased to report he was non the worse for his little antics!

Jaxx 8 March 2006. Snowing again!!! Jaxx loves the snow. He came in with it on him!
April 24th 2006. We stop at Rock Creeck on our way back to the farm in Grand Forks and collect our new addition Bosun. Jaxx is delighted and barks his pleasure, tail wagging, all the way home! Once home the two get to know each other and it isnt long before Bo follows jaxx about when outside.
May 1st 2006. Jaxx is exploring the harrow and tyres, while Bosun does the same!
Jaxx loves to sit up on a chair:
May 15th 2006
I left Jaxx in the stable/barn area which is fenced and I thought was dog safe and would keep Jaxx enclosed. I took Bosun to the vets for his 12 week injections, and when we got back there was Jaxx sitting on the doorstep! He had dug his way out and under the gate! Oooppsss!
Later that evening I was mowing and Jaxx escaped again! It didn't surprise me this time but what did surprise me was Bosun following Jaxx, by digging the same hole, but at a later time.
June 1st 2006
Today Jaxx and Bosun had their treatment to prevent fleas, ear-mites, mange mite, tick infestation and for the prevention of heartworm. All I had to do was open a little plastic phial and drip the liquid on the back of their necks. Jaxx did not like having this done to him. He growled!

Jaxx likes to rest on the couch that is under the trees. Today he decided to rest on the table beside the couch!:
Sept 22 2006.
We set off for Vancouver where jaxx will be staying for three weeks. For two of those weeks Bosun will be in kennels so Jaxx can have a break from his antics!
Jaxx got lonely towards the end of his two weeks without Bosun. He was really pleased to go in the car to pick Bosun up from the Ladner kennels on Oct 13!
2 Nov 2006
Jaxx didn't think much of the snow that was falling outside! He came inside and curled up in the toy basket!!:
Here's Jaxx wandering around after the first snowfall!:
3 Nov 2006
Jaxx has had his yearly visit to the vets for his injections and his rabies. His fur is greasy even though he was washed yesterday. So the vet has advised a special shampoo and conditioner for him, with oatmeal in.
7 Nov 2006.
I washed Jaxx today with his new shampoo and conditioner. He now looks and feels as wonderful as the times he has been to the groomers (Petcetera's in Vancouver). We will see how long it takes this time for him to get greasy. He is due to be washed weekly until his fur has improved.
6 August 2007
Today Bo and Jaxx go to the kennels for a week while we tour towards Banff, Lake Louise and Calgary. The kennels are just a ten minute drive away from our farm. The dogs have no cages to go into but are allowed into the home of the owner of the kennels and interact as one of the family.

This afternoon we collect Bo and Jaxx after we arrive back from Calgary. Both dogs are delighted to see us and appear to have had a good week away from us.
