My friend had a wonderful idea! She had lots of plastic carrier bags and wondered what to do with them. She searched the internet for ideas. Then she solved her question by using the bags to crochet a wonderful bag! A great way to recycle!
Collect your plastic carrier bags.
Cut off the handles.
Cut strips going horizontally around the bag of about an inch wide.
Link two strips together by passing one through the other and pulling tight.
Crochet the base using as many stitches as you need for the width, maing a chain. Two strip widths make up the "thread" being used..ie. the strip is a circle which when used is two!
Do the second row then double back on yourself going in the same chain to come back again so that you are working in a circle for each row.
When the bag is as high as you want it make the handles for it by doing a part of the row, then chaining for the handle part, then going in the row again as before, on each side of the bag.
The next row thicken the handle part by going in the chain.
When the handle is thick enough, finish off the bag in the usual way when crocheting.
