I have no idea of the variety of the hummingbirds that I see in my garden. They are named because of the hum that they make when hovering. how is the hum made? It is made from the rapid beating of its' wings. The wings beat from about 10 to 15 beats per second to about 80 beats per second depending on its' size. They hover and are able to fly backwards.
