These geese were on the Kettle River 3 Aug 2006. There were several groups of geese on different parts of the river bank:

Size:
They are large birds with a wing span of over four feet, between 50 to 68 inches. They are between 20 and 50 inches long.
Color
They have a long black neck, with a black head and bill. They have a dark brown body with a lighter brown almost white belly.
Habitat
They live in around ponds, rivers and lake shores.
Diet
They eat aquatic vegetation, grass and roots. In agricultural areas they eat grain too.
Nests
They make their nests on the ground out of grass and plant material and line it with feather down.
Eggs
Each egg takes as much as a day to lay. The female lays between 2 and 12 eggs in her clutch. The eggs are white in color. The babies are called goslings.
Mating
They mate for life.

A gaggle of geese had settled in our 3 acre field. They were happy until Bosun, our Border Colie Pup took his early morning run and scared them off. See them here:
11 March 2007. I see and hear two geese flying over head and they settle for a short time on the back field. This is the first geese I have seen all winter.
